The Gem of the Crystal Coast

One of North Carolina's oldest towns, Beaufort sits on the edge of the Rachel Carson Reserve and Taylor's Creek. Paddle past wild horses on Carrot Island, watch dolphins play in the channel, and soak up the charm of a waterfront that's barely changed in 300 years.

Launch: There are two NCWRC boat ramps in Beaufort. One at 298 W Beaufort Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. The second one is at 2370 Lenoxville Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. Plan for one of these two to use as a launch site.

A True Working Fishing Village

Harkers Island is the real deal — a tight-knit fishing community where wooden boats are still built by hand and the pace of life follows the tides. Paddle among working docks, crab pots, and classic Carolina skiffs with Cape Lookout Lighthouse in the distance.

Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most remote and rewarding paddles on the coast. Miles of undisturbed salt marsh, teeming with herons, egrets, and migratory shorebirds. This is the tour for nature lovers who want to feel truly away from it all.

Rachel Carson Reserve

A Living Classroom on the Water

Just across Taylor's Creek from Beaufort, the Rachel Carson Reserve is a protected estuarine sanctuary named for the author of Silent Spring. Tidal flats, maritime shrub, and open water channels make this one of the most ecologically rich paddles on the coast.

Ocracoke Island

Ocracoke Island is one of the most unspoiled barrier islands on the East Coast. Paddle Silver Lake Harbor, explore Pamlico Sound, and discover the quiet creeks and marshes that have sheltered sailors and pirates for centuries.

Parking: Parking rules apply for multiple day trips.
Ocracoke Island is a very special tour with additional logistics and charges. Depending on your group's needs, it may be a better value to use a local kayaking tour company on Ocracoke Island. We are happy to discuss the options with you. We do have a sailboat available to sail to Ocracoke Island with the kayaks for two couples. This is a minimum four-day tour, depending on weather conditions, with additional charges.

Launch from Beaufort or Harkers Island and paddle across to this breathtaking stretch of coast. Available for up to four people: a four-day sailboat package combining kayaking, beaching, and lighthouse tours. The perfect escape for those who want to truly get away.

Launch: There are two optional tours departing from different launch sites. The difficult paddling tour departs from Harkers Island NCWRC Boat Ramp, 1648 Harkers Island Rd, NC 28516. The second difficult paddling tour departs from 2370 Lenoxville Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516. The moderate tour is a four-day tour using our sailboat — special arrangements are required.

Cape Lookout is a very special tour with additional logistics. There are two difficulty levels available. Special arrangements are required for all Cape Lookout tours. This is considered a very difficult tour — you must be in very good physical shape to complete it.

Our launch sites span the coast of North Carolina, using primarily NCWRC boat ramps and National Park Service boat launches. We cover the Crystal Coast and other beautiful locations along the NC coast. Drive time from Raleigh-Durham can vary from two to four hours depending on your destination.
